This is personal and boring

Friday, April 28

Tony Snow is a piece of shit. From his column:

If one argues that a woman would suffer trauma by bringing [babies conceived through rape or incest] to term, what would prevent other women from citing trauma as an equally cogent reason for their abortions? Trauma introduces an obligation to pay special heed to the victims of rape or incest.

He's essentially saying, "If we exempt rape/incest victims because of 'trauma,' we have to exempt all women seeking abortions because of 'trauma...' and we can't have that."

And God fucking forbid that we "pay special heed" to those women who have had their bodies violated.

His solutions:

Offer counseling. Provide lavish pre- and post-natal care. Take time to grant them as much support as the state can provide. And prosecute ruthlessly the creeps who violated them. That alone could do as much as anything else to help such mothers get a decent night's sleep.

I daresay that the thing which would help "such mothers" the most is that they not have to be reminded of a horrible physical assault on a daily basis, if such is their choice.

This kind of freaks me out... and yet, because I have a twelve year-old's sense of humor, the headline is pretty funny.

Tuesday, April 4

In honor of National Poetry Month, I present this open letter to William Carlos Williams:

You're right, Bill
those plums
would have made
a fine meal

or so I thought
when I bought
them
yesterday

And now
I am very hungry
you greedy mother
fucker

Jill Carroll-related stuff

AmLeft does an excellent round-up of right-wing Jill Carroll conspiracy theories here. I think Victoria puts it best when she asks... nay, demands... that people "leave Jill Carroll the hell alone."

On a sunnier note, I found some lovely photos of Jill's homecoming via Quaker Agitator.

----------

I apologize for the radio silence. The awesomeness of Friday night's show by The Bad Plus is almost cancelled out by the fact that my future boyfriend Sondre Lerche's upcoming gigs in Hollywood are now sold out. I've been hanging out with Space Kitty this weekend, and am leaving for the recovery compound shortly to prepare a mighty feast of Sloppy Joe.

In other news, I'm going to add some co-bloggers soon, probably within the next week. I'll make a more comprehensive announcement very soon.
